I can dig it. And yeah, sleep can ameliorate these kinds of things, though in my experience more sleep is not the miracle cure so many believe it to be.

By the way, have you ever read any Robert Walser? He's a little-known Swiss novelist and short story writer. I can't remember if I've recommended him to you before, but I think you might find his works congenial. They are melancholy, in a friendly way, funny without being self-consciously hysterical. The stop-action animators and filmmakers the Brothers Quay are fans, and their film "Institute Benjamenta" was actually based on a Walser novel. (I've started trying to finish the collection of his short stories I bought a while back, so I just thought I'd mention it.)
